Obama ‘outperforming McCain on internet ads’
Barack Obama outperformed John McCain when it came to online advertising during the first half of 2008, according to a new report.
Compiled by comScore, the statistics suggested that Mr Obama outranked his rival in terms of display ads, searches and site visitors during the period.
Mr Obama saw about 92 million monthly ad exposures, compared with Mr McCain’s seven million, as well as almost 2.2 million website visitors versus 583,000 for Mr McCain.
Despite this, Mr McCain came out on top in terms of online video views. Andrew Lipsman, senior analyst at comScore, explained some of the other differences between the two candidates’ online strategies.
"While Obama’s ads tend to be ‘brand-building’ ads encouraging people to join the movement, McCain’s ads are often issue-oriented," he remarked.
In July, Nielsen Online released statistics suggesting that the final month of the US election primary season saw Mr Obama receive the highest number of website visitors compared with his rivals.
