Online ads to overtake TV experts claim
New research has suggested that online advertising could overtake that of television ads by the end of 2009.
The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), PricewaterhouseCoopers and the World Advertising Research Centre also said that the UK was the leader in online advertising across the world and that UK market was worth 2.8 billion pounds in 2007.
The UK sector experienced 4.3 per cent of growth of online advertising to reach 18.4 billion pounds.
Guy Phillipson, CEO of the IAB UK, said: "With broadband speeds on the up and consumers spending more time on more sites, the outlook for online advertising is rosy - in fact we expect it to overtake TV in 2009 when it will become the UK’s biggest medium."
According to the World Advertising Research Centre, the internet now makes up 15.3 per cent of total media and spending in the UK.
The World Advertising Research Centre is an independent organisation that works closely with trade associations, industry bodies and blue chip companies such as ACNielsen, ESOMAR and the US Association of National Advertisers.
