Adsense for video launches in beta
Google has launched the Adsense for video programme in beta, changing the face of search engine marketing (SEM) and providing new advertising opportunities for publishers.
Following on from pilot testing, the programme will enable selected publishers within the Google content network to take have part of revenues from video ads displayed on their sites.
Only US-based publishers serving a minimum of one million video streams per month can sign up to the programme, which will distribute across video site and advertising network partners.
Advertisers using the beta programme will be able to reach customers either through text overlays or InVideo overlays, featuring animated text that appears over the bottom 20 per cent of video screens.
Potentially lucrative video advertising exposure within the Google network will be priced in pay per click (PPC) terms, with text overlays paid on a cost-per-thousand clicks basis and InVideo overlays paid on cost-per-thousand impressions.
Google said: "We know that publishers are quickly adding video to their sites and looking for ways to earn additional revenue."
