Google most visited site, BeatThatQuote.com fastest grower
New research has revealed the Google was the most visited site last year in the UK, surprising no-one by garnering 25.1 million unique users, nearly twice as many as nearest rival MSN.
Highlighting the importance of search marketing and ad placement through search engines in reaching wide audiences, the figures from Nielson Online confirmed the dominance of Google in the domain.
But results were perhaps more surprising for fastest growing site in the UK, with insurance and financial comparison site BeatThatQuote.com outstripping even social networking leader Facebook in yearly expansion.
With advertisers now focusing on popular service comparison sites for lucrative pay per click slots, the research showed BeatThatQuote.com’s UK audience to have reached 392,000, constituting a 1,165 per cent increase on a year ago.
Alex Burmaster, Nielsen Online internet analyst, took a swipe at Facebook and highlighted the growing importance of informative comparison sites.
"Many will be surprised to see that Facebook wasn’t the fastest growing site of the year, this honour went to price comparison site Beat That Quote - a reminder that the internet provides valuable services other than virtually poking friends and acquaintances."
