Searches top 60 billion
The importance of employing effective SEO strategies has been underlined by new figures revealing monthly search amounts.
Online research firm comScore says that around 750 million people over the age of 15 conducted searches in August - with around 6.1 billion searches completed over the course of the month. The average user searched over eight times.
The sheer scale of internet searches is driving many retailers and businesses to up their internet marketing spend and place greater emphasis on search market analysis.
"With the tremendous volume of search activity occurring around the world, search continues to present an abundance of marketing opportunities to companies on both a global and local scale," said comScore’s Bob Ivins.
Google was the most used website for searches, with over 37 billion taking place from its homepage.
Nest in line was Yahoo at 8.5 billion, followed by Baidu on 3.3 million, Microsoft sites on 2.2 billion, NHN Corporation on 2.0 billion and eBay on 3.9 billion.
