Internet marketing ‘very useful’ for SMEs

Internet marketing techniques such as newsletters, blogs and affiliate marketing can be very successful in raising the profile of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), one expert has claimed.

Peter Hawtin, spokesperson at marketing firm Brand New Way, says that marketing is a very important tool for SMEs - and adds that finding out the right marketing method for your company depends on the nature of the enterprise.

‘The essence of marketing is delivering the right message to the right people in the right way," he commented.

"Therefore, what is the right solution for one business may be different to others, but certainly direct marketing and traditional marketing still have a role to play," he continued, before going on to explain how internet marketing techniques are gaining increasingly popularity among SMEs.

"Increasingly people are finding the benefits of online marketing; emails, newsletters and a tiny number are even more advanced [and are] looking at doing blogs."

A recent report revealed that 25 per cent of companies have used blogs as a marketing tool - with just five per cent believing them to be useful in this regard.
