Google acquires Postini
Google has announced that it has come to an agreement to buy Postini - a "global leader" in on-demand communications security and compliance solutions "serving more than 35,000 businesses and ten million users worldwide".
The search engine giant - the traditional focus of search engine optimisation campaigns in the UK and US - will acquire the company for $625 million as Postini becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Google.
Postini offers services including archiving, encryption, policy enforcement and message security. The purpose of the purchase is to make Google’s online hosted Google Apps office productivity suite more attractive and secure for large business users.
"With this transaction, we’re reinforcing our commitment to delivering compelling hosted applications to businesses of all sizes," Eric Schmidt, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Google says.
"With the addition of Postini, our apps are not just simple and appealing to users - they can also streamline the complex information security mandates within these organisations."
